Everything old is new again at vintage jewelry business
Osseo's newest business, The Vintage Jewelry Collection, is the kind of place that offers customers shopping for jewelry a treasure hunt and a history lesson at the same time. The new store, which opened its doors April 1, features a collection of more than 4,000 vintage jewelry items ranging from as far back as the 1860's. "There is no where else [in this area] you can go and see a collection like this in one store," said Lorinda Ims, the store's owner.
Though Ims just opened the store in Osseo this month, she's no stranger to vintage jewelry. Ims's mother was a vintage jewelry dealer, so Lorinda was well accustomed to vintage jewelry from a young age.
"I was the only 12–year–old girl who could identify a piece of Miriam Haskell jewelry hanging on my teacher's neck," said Ims. Ims got her own start selling vintage pieces in 2003 when she started selling jewelry at area antique malls. However, with a brick and mortar store now, Ims is able to educate her customers about the history of each piece. "You're able to identify with each piece of jewelry, what was going on in the world at that time," said Ims. "Why did they make it this way? Why in the 1950's were rhinestones so prevalent, but then you get to the 1970's and beads were so prevalent. Everything has a reason."
With prices that range from $3 to $300 dollars, Erica Beyreis became a fan and loyal customer of the vintage jewelry Ims sold several years ago. "You feel like you're coming into the Antiques Roadshow, and you're on a treasure hunt, and you find something fantastic and amazing, and you learn all about it," said Beyreis.
In addition to selling vintage jewelry, the Osseo shop also buys items and does jewelry repair work. The Vintage Jewelry Collection will hold its official grand opening on May 5th with a ribbon cutting at 11:30.
